Ep 1. The Strangest Day

Tohru Honda is an optimistic high school girl who seems to have it all together. However, her life takes a sharp turn when she finds herself suddenly homeless after her mother's death. With nowhere else to go, Tohru sets up camp in a tent in the woods and tries to make the best of her situation.

One day, while walking to her temporary home, Tohru stumbles upon a sprawling estate with a grand gate. She soon discovers that the property belongs to the Soma family, a wealthy and enigmatic clan who are rumored to be cursed. The legend goes that members of the Soma family are possessed by spirits of the Chinese zodiac and transform into their respective animals when under stress or hugged by someone of the opposite sex.

Despite this eerie reputation, Tohru is taken in by the Soma family, who are amazed by her positive attitude and selflessness. She meets the handsome and stoic Yuki, who is the rat of the zodiac, and the brash and hostile Kyo, who is the cat. Yuki and Kyo are at odds with each other and constantly bickering, but they both share a strong bond with Tohru.

As Tohru begins living with the Soma family, she learns more about their peculiar curse and their individual struggles. She becomes determined to help them break the curse and live normal lives. The first episode of Fruits Basket introduces us to this charming and quirky world, setting the stage for a heartwarming and emotional journey.
