Yan Shu Ren helps her find the courage to leave her abusive partner and start a new life.

Another major storyline in the show is Yan Shu Ren's relationship with his older brother Yan Shu Lin (played by Ji Chen). Yan Shu Lin has always felt overshadowed by his younger brother's academic success and resents him for it.
