In Fringe season 4 episode 20, titled "Worlds Apart," the Fringe team faces a high-stakes situation when a familiar foe returns with a vengeance.
As the episode begins, the Fringe team is experiencing a peaceful moment. Olivia (Anna Torv) and Peter (Joshua Jackson) are enjoying a romantic evening at home while Walter (John Noble) and Astrid (Jasika Nicole) are having a pleasant conversation in the lab. However, this tranquility is short-lived as they receive word that David Robert Jones (Jared Harris) has resurfaced once again.
Jones, a former Biomedical Researcher turned criminal mastermind, previously teased the Fringe team with his plans to collapse both universes and create a new one in its place. His plans were thwarted, but it seems that he has managed to make a comeback, and this time he has a new accomplice.
The Fringe team initially assumes that this accomplice is from their own universe, but soon realizes that they are working with someone from the alternate universe. As the Fringe team races to discover this person's identity and stop Jones' latest plot, they must also confront the very real possibility that the events that they have experienced may have rendered their own universe uninhabitable.
Meanwhile, on the other side, Lincoln (Seth Gabel) and Fauxlivia (Anna Torv) discover that their universe is experiencing a similar issue. They have also been targeted by Jones and his followers, and they too must find a way to stop his plans before it's too late.
As both teams work towards their shared goal, they must also confront their differences and find a way to put them aside for the greater good.
