In Friends season 9 episode 15, titled "The One With The Mugging," the gang faces a traumatic incident when Phoebe is mugged by a thief who snatches her grandmother's precious caboodle. Phoebe is deeply shaken by the incident and feeling violated, she becomes paranoid and fearful of going out alone. To comfort her, Joey offers to take her to a self-defense class where she tries to learn how to defend herself.
Meanwhile, Chandler is struggling with his job when he learns that his boss wants to transfer him to Tulsa, Oklahoma. Chandler is torn between his loyalty to Monica and his desire to advance his career, but ultimately decides to accept the transfer, causing him to say goodbye to his friends and leave Monica on her own in New York.
Ross tries to help Phoebe overcome her fear of going out alone, but his plan backfires when he himself is mugged and has his beloved dinosaur keychain stolen from him. Ross tries to pretend that he isn't affected by the mugging but deep down, he is terrified.
Rachel sees the silver lining in the situation and convinces Ross to embrace his fear and use it as an inspiration for his new project, a school video teaching children about dinosaurs. With Rachel's help, Ross creates a video in which he dons a dinosaur costume and teaches children about the ancient creatures.
Monica struggles to cope with Chandler's departure and becomes increasingly anxious and paranoid, unable to control her emotions. She seeks comfort in her friends, who try to cheer her up and assure her that she is not alone.
In the end, the gang comes together to support each other and Phoebe finds the courage to go out alone again. Chandler leaves for Tulsa, but promises to stay in touch with Monica and make their long distance relationship work. The episode ends with a touching scene of the gang huddled together at Central Perk, reminiscing about old times and celebrating their friendship.
