In Friends season 7 episode 15, titled "The One With Joey's New Brain," Joey auditions for a major role in a movie and surprisingly gets the part. However, his excitement is short-lived when he discovers that the show's writers are planning to drastically alter his character. In order to better portray his role, Joey recommends to the show's producers that he needs to get a better understanding of his character's focal point, the human brain. Monica, being her helpful self, sets up a mock human brain for Joey and Chandler to study. Still, Joey is struggling with understanding his character.
Meanwhile, Rachel is having trouble planning Emma's first birthday party, and she has to resort to Phoebe, who has an unusual way of decorating for parties. Chandler and Ross both try to dismiss the party and wish Rachel good luck, but they return halfway through the party and find everything in chaos. Ross is especially upset, as he discovers that Rachel invited his ex-girlfriend, Charlie, to the party.
Monica's ex-boyfriend Richard also returns in this episode, to the surprise of everyone. After a chance meeting in Central Perk, they decide to go on a date, which leaves Chandler feeling insecure and self-conscious.
