The One Where They're Up All Night is the twelfth episode of the seventh season of the popular sitcom Friends. The episode originally aired on January 11, 2001, and was directed by Kevin S. Bright.

The episode begins with Ross and Joey trying to move Ross's new couch into his apartment. But as soon as they begin, they get stuck in the staircase, and they can't move the couch either up or down. After several failed attempts, they give up and leave the couch in the staircase.

Meanwhile, Chandler and Monica are having a hard time getting to sleep since they can hear a dog barking all night long. They try several methods, such as a white noise machine and earplugs, but nothing works. Eventually, they decide to go to the roof to see where the dog is coming from.

Phoebe is also up all night, but for a very different reason. She has become addicted to playing a new video game called "Ms. Pac-Man." She has been playing for hours and is now on her last life. She calls Rachel over, hoping that she can help her beat the game. Rachel is hesitant at first, but she gives in and agrees to play.

Back on the roof, Chandler and Monica finally find the source of the barking dog. It's coming from a neighbor's apartment, where a woman named Janice is dog-sitting. Janice is Chandler's ex-girlfriend, and they both seem surprised to see each other. Janice tells them that the dog is barking because he's lonely and suggests that they take him for a walk. Chandler and Monica reluctantly agree.

Meanwhile, Joey has fallen asleep on the couch in the staircase, and Ross is trying to wake him up. Ross begins to read a book to pass the time, and he falls asleep too. When they finally wake up, it's morning, and they realize that they've been stuck in the staircase all night.

Phoebe and Rachel are still playing "Ms. Pac-Man," and they're getting very competitive. In the midst of the game, Rachel accidentally unplugs the machine, and they lose all their progress. They both get frustrated and decide to give up.

Chandler and Monica return the dog to Janice's apartment, and they both seem to be reminiscing about old times. Chandler admits that he's still in love with Monica, but she doesn't seem to hear him. They say their goodbyes and head back to their apartment.

As the episode comes to a close, Chandler and Monica finally fall asleep, but they wake up to the sound of Ross and Joey trying to move the couch again. They rush to the staircase to help, and after a few more attempts, they finally get the couch into Ross's apartment.

Overall, The One Where They're Up All Night is a lighthearted and funny episode that showcases the characters' different struggles with insomnia. It also provides some interesting insights into Chandler and Monica's relationship and hints at the possibility of a future romance. Fans of Friends are sure to enjoy this episode and its witty humor.
