In Friends season 6 episode 12, titled "The One With The Joke," the gang is getting ready for Ross's son Ben's fifth birthday party. Chandler and Joey are tasked with making sure that everything runs smoothly at the party. However, things start to go awry when Chandler accidentally falls asleep and misses Ben's "magic" show.
Meanwhile, Monica is getting ready to perform at a karaoke bar, but is nervous about singing in front of her friends. She confides in Rachel about her insecurities and Rachel convinces her that she should just go out there and do her best.
Back at the birthday party, Ross's ex-wife Carol and her lesbian partner Susan show up with their new baby. This, of course, makes things awkward for Ross, who is still in love with Carol. To make matters worse, Carol tells Ross a joke that he can't seem to understand, causing him to become even more self-conscious.
As the party winds down, Chandler and Joey realize that they forgot to order a cake for Ben's birthday. They scramble to find a solution, but come up short. Luckily, Ross saves the day by suggesting that they all sing "Happy Birthday" to Ben without a cake.
Meanwhile, Monica heads to the karaoke bar and decides to sing "Delta Dawn." Despite being nervous at first, she quickly gets into the groove and performs an impressive rendition of the song, much to the delight of her friends.
