In Friends season 2 episode 20, titled "The One Where Old Yeller Dies," the group of friends deals with the aftermath of a series of events that involves the death of Phoebe's grandmother, the end of a romantic relationship, and the possibility of losing a beloved pet.
After learning about her grandmother's passing, Phoebe goes through a rollercoaster of emotions as she tries to come to terms with her loss. Meanwhile, Joey struggles with his own emotional dilemma as he contemplates ending his relationship with his girlfriend, who has become too possessive for his liking.
As Rachel and Ross try to distract Joey from his troubles, Chandler and Monica attempt to help their other friend, whose dog is on the brink of death. With Ross obsessing over the possibility of saving the animal by putting him under hypnosis, the group decides to hold an impromptu funeral for the beloved pet.
Amidst the chaos and sadness, however, the group manages to find humor in their situation. Chandler, always the wise-cracker, offers comic relief with his trademark sarcasm and impeccable timing. Meanwhile, Phoebe's eccentricities come to the forefront, as she copes with her grandmother's death in her own unique way.
As the episode comes to a close, the group finds comfort in their shared experiences and the knowledge that they are always there for one another, no matter what life throws their way. Through their laughter and tears, they are reminded of the importance of friendship and the power it has to get them through even the toughest of times.
