In Friends season 1 episode 6, entitled "The One With The Butt," Joey gets his big break in show business when he lands a role in a play. However, when his co-star criticizes his acting skills, Joey decides to take matters into his own hands and rewrite his lines. Meanwhile, Chandler meets a woman at the play and tries to impress her by pretending to be more cultured than he actually is.

The episode opens with Joey excitedly telling his friends that he got a part in a play. The play is called "Freud!" and Joey's character is an Italian immigrant who worships Sigmund Freud. Joey's friends are all excited for him, especially Ross who is a bit jealous because he is a paleontologist and Joey is now a famous actor. However, their attitudes change when they see a performance of the play and everyone realizes that Joey is not a good actor. His co-star, Kate, is not shy about telling him this, but Joey is determined to prove her wrong.

Meanwhile, Chandler meets a woman named Aurora at the play and is immediately smitten. They start talking about the play and Chandler tries to impress her by pretending to know a lot about Freud. Aurora is impressed and Chandler thinks he's found a way to win her over. He gets even more excited when she invites him to a party, thinking that this might lead to a relationship.

Back at the play, Joey decides to rewrite his lines to make them more interesting. He shows his friends what he's done and they are all impressed with his creativity. However, when he starts rehearsing with Kate, she is not impressed. She tells him that he can't just change the lines without consulting the director. Joey is hesitant to do this because he thinks the director will just tell him what he can't do. But eventually he realizes that Kate is right and he needs to talk to the director.

At the party, Chandler is disappointed to find out that Aurora doesn't actually know anything about Freud. In fact, she's only interested in him because she thinks he's an "interesting" guy. Chandler is frustrated because he thinks he's wasted his time trying to impress her. He decides to leave, but not before making fun of her for being so shallow.

Back at the play, Joey talks to the director and they discuss his changes to the script. The director doesn't like them at first, but Joey is able to convince him that they are good for the play. He gets a second chance to perform and this time he does much better. Kate is impressed and tells him that his changes really helped the play. Joey is thrilled and grateful to his friends for supporting him through it all.

In the end, Chandler is back at the coffeehouse with his friends, telling them about his disastrous date with Aurora. They all console him and Monica even offers to set him up with one of her friends. Joey is still riding high from his success in the play and tells his friends that he's decided to pursue acting full-time. The episode ends with everyone laughing and joking together, as they always do.
