Monica is out on a date with a guy who turns out to be a high school senior. She had no idea he was that young and feels uncomfortable about the whole situation. Meanwhile, Joey and Chandler convince Ross to play a prank on Rachel by pretending to find her lost cat. Ross, feeling bad for her, eventually comes clean but Rachel is not amused.
Phoebe reveals to the group that one of her clients is a man who has a recurring dream about Monica and her "weird" thumb. This causes Monica to become incredibly self-conscious about her "weird" thumb and she becomes obsessed with trying to hide it.
In the midst of all this, Joey and Chandler are dealing with an issue of their own – they are broke and can't afford to pay their bills. They come up with the scheme to sell all of their furniture and then buy it all back at a cheaper price from themselves after pretending to be robbers. However, their plan backfires when they get robbed for real and end up with no furniture and no money.
Things come to a head when Monica's young date shows up at her apartment while Phoebe's client is there for a massage. The situation becomes awkward when the young man reveals to Monica's date that she has a "weird" thumb. Eventually, Monica confronts her insecurities and shows off her thumb to everyone, much to Phoebe's client's delight.
In the end, Joey and Chandler are forced to sit on lawn chairs in their empty apartment and Ross tries to make things right with Rachel by apologizing for the cat prank and buying her a replacement cat. The episode ends with all the friends gathered in Monica's apartment, enjoying each other's company and making jokes about one another.
