Ep 3. Maid of the Island

Following on from the first season's success, Free Rein returned to Netflix in 2018 with a brand new season – and it didn't fail to impress. With the wonderful scenery of the island, outstanding horses, and high stakes drama, season 2 continued to provide audiences with adventure, mystery, and heart-warming moments.

One of the standout episodes of the season was episode 3, "Maid of the Island." The episode picks up a few weeks after the events of the previous episode as Zoe (played by Jaylen Barron) spends time with her new friend, Marcus (played by Kai Zen). Together, they investigate the mysterious group who have been taking wild horses from the island, trying to uncover their motives.

As they continue their investigation, the two come across a stray dog that they decide to take in. But, they soon realize that the dog is, in fact, a police dog that has been separated from his handlers. Zoe and Marcus take it upon themselves to reunite the dog with his owners – leading them to discover more about the mysterious group along the way.

Meanwhile, the rest of the characters in the show experience their own challenges. Mia (played by Celine Buckens) struggles with anxiety as she prepares for the upcoming Bluebell Gala, while Jade (played by Freddy Carter) and Becky (played by Kerry Ingram) attempt to rejuvenate the dilapidated Stowaway Stables.

As the episode continues, Zoe and Marcus find themselves on a string of wild goose chases, trying to locate the police handlers and, as it turns out, the people responsible for taking the wild horses from the island. Their search takes them through the waterways, forests, and eventually to an abandoned quarry, where they are confronted by the group responsible.

Despite the danger they face, Zoe and Marcus manage to come out on top and are finally able to reunite the dog with his handlers. The episode ends with the gang preparing for the Bluebell Gala, where Zoe plans to perform a musical number honoring the wild horses – and, of course, no Free Rein episode would be complete without a stunning horse-riding sequence.

Overall, "Maid of the Island" is a thrilling and exciting episode that keeps viewers on the edge of their seats. It's a testament to the show's strong writing and brilliant ensemble cast, as they work together to deliver a captivating and heart-warming story.
