In Frasier season 5 episode 4, titled The Kid (2), Frasier becomes concerned when his son, Frederick, starts to idolize a classmate named Kirby, who seems to have a wild streak. Despite Frasier's attempts to show Frederick the error of his ways, he finds himself being pulled into Kirby's orbit as well.
Meanwhile, Niles is thrilled to have been invited to the exclusive Empire Club and decides to bring his new girlfriend, Mel, along. However, Mel's abrasive personality quickly puts everyone on edge, and Niles begins to wonder if he's made a mistake.
As the night wears on, Frasier finds himself becoming increasingly annoyed with Kirby's antics, which include stealing wine from a neighboring table and flirting with a waitress. When Kirby invites Frasier and Frederick to join him and his friends for a night out on the town, Frasier reluctantly agrees, hoping to keep a closer eye on his son.
But as the night wears on, things begin to spiral out of control, and Frasier is forced to confront his own fears and assumptions about parenting as he tries to keep up with Kirby and his wild friends.
Meanwhile, Niles finds himself at a loss as he tries to deal with Mel's increasingly erratic behavior, which includes insulting the other club members and making a scene on the dance floor. As the night wears on, Niles begins to wonder if he's made a terrible mistake in bringing her along.
In the end, Frasier is forced to confront his own shortcomings as a parent and make a difficult decision about how best to guide his son, while Niles is left to wonder if he'll ever find someone who can match his own high standards.
