Frasier season 3 episode 17, titled "High Crane Drifter," opens with Frasier and Niles eagerly waiting for the release of the new wine list at a restaurant they frequent. However, their excitement is short-lived when they discover that their favorite wine is no longer available.
Meanwhile, Martin is excited to attend his high school reunion, but is hesitant to go alone. Frasier suggests that Martin invites his old high school crush, Mimi, to be his date. Unbeknownst to Martin, Mimi is now a successful businesswoman and is more interested in closing a deal than catching up with old classmates.
Back at the restaurant, Frasier and Niles are still reeling from the disappointment of not finding their favorite wine. In an attempt to find a new favorite, they begin to sample various wines, which leads to them becoming inebriated.
As Martin attends his high school reunion with Mimi, he realizes that they have very little in common and struggles to make conversation with her. Meanwhile, Frasier and Niles stumble out of the restaurant and find themselves lost in a less than desirable part of town.
The brothers try to find their way back to Frasier's apartment, but their drunken state leads them to make several wrong turns. As they wander around the city, they run into some less than savory characters, including a group of street performers and a mugger.
Eventually, Frasier and Niles make it back to Frasier's apartment. The next morning, they wake up with splitting headaches and no recollection of the previous night's events. Martin returns from his high school reunion disappointed, but grateful for the experience.
Throughout the episode, the theme of nostalgia is present. Martin's desire to return to his high school days, Frasier and Niles' futile search for a new favorite wine, and their drunken escapades all show that sometimes our memories and desires for the past can be misleading.
In typical Frasier fashion, the episode is filled with witty banter and comedic timing. The portrayal of the brothers' drunken antics is both hilarious and cringe-worthy, making for a memorable episode. Overall, "High Crane Drifter" is a great addition to the Frasier canon, showcasing the talents of the show's cast and writers.
