In the Frasier season 10 episode 7, titled "Bristle While You Work (1)," the episode opens on a scene at Café Nervosa, where Frasier and Niles are sipping their coffee discussing the topic of their latest purchase, an expensive Japanese calligraphy set. They share their excitement to try out their new hobby and show off their skills to their friends and family. Meanwhile, Roz joins them and mentions a trip to the salon, and how her hairdresser suggested she should try wearing bangs. Frasier and Niles immediately disapprove of the idea, and suggest she stick with her usual style.
After returning home, Frasier and Niles bring out their new calligraphy set to begin practicing. However, they soon find out that their skill level is not up to par, and they start arguing over who has the better technique. Their bickering escalates to the point where they accidentally spill ink on their carpet. They immediately call for a professional carpet cleaning service, but are displeased with the work done by the first technician. They decide to hire a second cleaning service, and things start getting messy when the two companies start competing with each other to win the job.
In the meantime, Roz decides to go ahead and get the bangs she’s been considering. However, she runs into some trouble as her new hairstyle doesn’t quite turn out the way she expected. She turns to Frasier for support, but he is too preoccupied with the drama between the two competing cleaning services. Roz eventually decides to take matters into her own hands and fixes her hair herself, with disastrous results.
As the competition between the cleaning services continues, Frasier and Niles become more and more involved in the process. The situation escalates to a point where they stage a fake spill to test the skills of the two companies. However, their prank backfires, and the entire apartment ends up flooded with water.
In the end, Frasier and Niles finally realize the futility of their petty argument and apologize to each other. They come to the conclusion that calligraphy may not be their natural talent, and they should stick to what they know best. The show ends with the two brothers sitting in their living room, surrounded by the mess they made, reflecting on the lessons they learned.
