In Forged in Fire season 5 episode 7, titled "Ultimate Team Challenge," four teams of bladesmiths compete in the ultimate test of skill and teamwork. Each team consists of two expert bladesmiths who must work together to create one weapon in just three hours.
The first challenge requires the teams to forge their own Damascus steel using a technique called the "canister method". This process involves packing layers of steel and other materials into a canister which is then heated and forged to create a unique pattern. The teams must work quickly and efficiently in order to complete this step within the allotted time.
Once the Damascus steel is complete, the teams move on to the second challenge: creating a dagger using the steel they just forged. The teams must work together to design, forge, and finish the dagger in just two hours. This challenge requires both great skill and careful planning in order to create a dagger that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing.
After the second challenge is complete, the blades are tested for both durability and sharpness. Each blade is tested by slicing through multiple targets including ropes, steel cables, and water bottles. The teams are given a score based on their performance in both the forging and testing stages of the competition.
The final challenge is the team's chance to showcase their abilities as they create a weapon of their choosing in just four hours. This is the most difficult challenge of the competition, requiring the teams to work together seamlessly and incorporate all of their skills to create a truly impressive weapon.
At the end of the episode, one team is declared the winner based on their performance throughout the competition. The winning team receives a cash prize and bragging rights as the ultimate bladesmiths.
