In season 5 episode 20 of Forged in Fire, titled "Wind and Fire Wheels", four skilled blacksmiths are tasked with forging a pair of blades from a pile of steel. However, this isn't just any challenge – the blades must be fashioned into intricate wheels, with one being designed to harness the power of wind and the other to harness the power of fire.
The first round sees the smiths given the opportunity to select their own materials, but they must adhere to certain guidelines to ensure their blades are suitable for use in the construction of wind and fire wheels. They all begin by forging their blades, with each smith bringing their own unique techniques, skills, and tools to the table. The judges carefully observe the progress of each contestant, providing feedback and advice as necessary.
Once the blades are forged, it's time to test them out. The blades are tested for their durability, sharpness, and flexibility – all crucial qualities for a blade that will be formed into a wheel. Only three smiths will move on to the next round, where they will face a tough challenge that will put all of their skills to the test.
In round two, the remaining smiths are tasked with taking their blades to the next level by turning them into functional wind and fire wheels. Again, they're given guidelines for what materials and techniques they can use, with the judges looking for a design that is both aesthetically pleasing and capable of functioning as intended.
As the smiths work, the judges continue to offer advice and encouragement, sharing their own expertise and experiences in crafting blades and other metal objects. The contestants are under a tight deadline, and tensions run high as they rush to complete their projects on time. As the clock ticks down, the judges bring in an expert to assess the functionality of the wheels, testing them to the limit to ensure they're up to the job.
In the final round, the remaining two contestants face off for a chance at the championship title. They're tasked with creating a new blade from scratch, this time using only recycled materials. With their newfound expertise from the previous rounds, the smiths pull out all the stops to create blades that are not only functional but also creative and beautiful.
The judges have the difficult task of evaluating the final round, weighing factors such as durability, sharpness, and design. Finally, they must choose a winner – the one blacksmith who has proven themselves to be the most skilled and creative of the bunch, and who will walk away with the title of Forged in Fire Champion.
With every episode, Forged in Fire showcases the immense skill and artistry involved in crafting metal objects by hand.
