John is a man of mystery who appears to be a medical examiner, with a passion for finding out what causes people to die. However, there's something unusual about John; something that sets him apart from anyone else in the world. As we meet him for the first time in the show's pilot episode, it's clear that he has a unique perspective on death and what it means to live forever.
Throughout the episode, we follow John as he performs his duties as a medical examiner in New York City. He's a skilled pathologist, but he's also incredibly curious about the circumstances that have led to each person's death. He approaches each case with a level of fascination that verges on obsession, and this fascination is what helps him to uncover some of the most fascinating and complex mysteries he encounters on his job.
But while John's job may be fascinating, it's also incredibly isolating. Despite his deep interest in the people whose deaths he investigates, he remains largely unchanged by their passing. For him, death is simply a puzzle to be solved; a challenge that he enjoys taking on. This has led to his becoming somewhat estranged from the people in his life, including his co-workers and the romantic interests that have come and gone over the years.
However, John's life changes when he's called to the scene of a gruesome crime one night. As he investigates the scene and begins to go through the motions of his job, he encounters a woman named Abigail. She's another mystery that John can't help but be drawn to, and as he tries to unravel the circumstances of her death, he begins to discover that there's more to her story than he ever could have imagined.
As we watch John and Abigail's story unfold across the course of the pilot episode, we learn more about each of them as people. We see the depth of John's sadness as he realizes that he's lived for centuries and has never truly connected with another person. We also see the depths of Abigail's pain as her story is revealed, and we begin to understand why she may have been so drawn to John.
Perhaps one of the most intriguing things about "Forever" is the fact that it's not your typical crime drama. While the show does feature mysteries and investigations to be solved, it also delves into philosophical issues surrounding death and the nature of life itself. As we watch John try to unravel the mysteries of the people he meets, we're also forced to confront our own beliefs about what it means to be alive.
Ultimately, "Pilot" sets the stage for a series that promises to be a unique and thoughtful exploration of some of life's biggest questions. With a cast of characters who are both fascinating and complex, "Forever" is the perfect show for anyone who enjoys delving into the mysteries of the human experience.
