Season 13, Episode 9 of Forensic Files delves into an investigation of a peculiar case in a small town in Oregon. In the fall of 1994, Karen Reeder, a kind and well-liked woman, was brutally murdered in her own home. Her body was discovered by a neighbor who had gone to check on her after becoming concerned over not seeing her for several days.

The police were baffled by the crime scene as Karen's home did not show any signs of forced entry or struggle. Her death was deemed a homicide due to the significant head injuries she had sustained. Investigating authorities immediately began questioning people in her life, including her estranged husband and her on-again, off-again boyfriend in hopes of finding any leads.

Despite their initial efforts, the case went cold for almost a year. However, a new detective was brought in to revisit the case after inconsistencies emerged in the statements given by Karen's ex-boyfriend, Michael Palmer. It was later discovered that Palmer's alibi for the night of the murder was false.

The case was complicated further when the detective learned that Palmer was known to have committed violent acts towards women in the past. The prosecution's case ultimately came down to a single hair found at the scene of the crime, which was determined to match Palmer's DNA. Forensic evidence, including blood spatter, added to the evidence against him.

The trial itself was a roller coaster, with evidence presented from both sides and testimony from various witnesses. Ultimately, the jury agreed that there was enough substantial evidence to convict Michael Palmer of Karen's murder. He was found guilty of murder in the first degree and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

The episode ends on a bittersweet note, as Karen's daughter reflects on how much the conviction has brought closure to her family, but acknowledges that no amount of justice can bring her mother back.

Overall, this episode of Forensic Files highlights the power of forensic evidence in solving crimes. It also showcases the exhaustive work done by law enforcement in uncovering the truth and bringing justice to victims and their families.
