In season 7 episode 3 of Flea Market Flip, titled "The Vignette Flip," viewers are taken on a journey with two teams as they scour a New Jersey flea market for items they can purchase and refurbish to sell at a profit. Hosted by Lara Spencer, the show challenges each team to find their own unique treasures that they'll use as the foundation for their respective design projects.
The first team, comprised of best friends Laura and Diane, decide to take on a rustic, industrial theme for their vignette. They quickly uncover an old metal toolbox, a pair of vintage leather gloves, and an antique typewriter. Believing they can all fuse these together, they continue to hunt for additional items to include in their design. However, they face a setback when they discover their biggest purchase - a rusty old gas pump - is not worth much. But their spirits are lifted when they find a pair of terrariums to incorporate into their vignette.
Meanwhile, the opposing team, cousins Amanda and Nick, have a more eclectic design aesthetic in mind. Searching for items that are "bright and shiny," they quickly snatch up a pair of colorful lamps and a retro cuckoo clock. They also score a vintage neon sign and an old fashioned turntable. However, things begin to turn sour when they realize that some of their purchases are not as valuable as they thought. The neon sign, in particular, ends up being a costly mistake.
Back at the workshop, both teams work tirelessly to transform their flea market finds into eye-catching pieces that are sure to attract buyers. Laura and Diane begin by giving their toolbox a makeover. They sand it down and apply a rust-colored paint, then add small touches of gold and copper to give it a touch of industrial glamour. They then direct their attention to their vintage gloves, which they decide to use as accents in a pair of terrariums. The typewriter is the final piece of the puzzle, adding a perfect finishing touch to their vignette.
Over on the other side of the workshop, Amanda and Nick get to work on their pieces. The color scheme for their vignette consists of bright blues, pinks, and yellows. To tie everything together, they decide to paint their clock and turntable in matching shades of pink. They then work to restore the neon sign, stripping it down and painting it in vibrant colors. Finally, they polish up their lamps and add decorative shades.
With only a few hours left before the flea market opens, both teams hustle to get their vignettes finished and ready for inspection. Lara Spencer joins them in the workshop, complimenting their creative efforts and offering tips on how to finalize their projects. Once finished, the teams load up their pieces and make their way to the market, eager to see what buyers will think of their hard work.
At the flea market, both teams face mixed reactions from buyers. Amanda and Nick's retro aesthetic proves to be popular with some, but others find their pieces a bit too garish. Meanwhile, Laura and Diane's rustic vignette receives praise for its simplicity and industrial charm. But despite the contrasting feedback, both teams manage to sell most of their pieces, earning a profit and proving once again that with a little creativity and hard work, even the most outdated flea market finds can be transformed into something beautiful and valuable.
