In this episode of Flea Market Flip season 6, it's a battle of the sexes as two teams of siblings go head-to-head to see who can transform flea market finds into the most profitable pieces. The brothers, Alex and Frank, are determined to prove their designing skills against their sisters, Rachel and Kelly.
Both teams start their search at the Kane County Flea Market in Illinois, where they have $500 to spend on their first flip. The brothers decide to focus on a mid-century modern coffee table, while the sisters opt for a unique set of bar stools. With their purchases in hand, the teams head to their respective workspaces to begin the transformation process.
The brothers' coffee table requires some TLC, so they start by sanding it down and refinishing the wood. They decide to add a pop of color to the table legs with a bright yellow paint, giving it a modern twist. They also add some personal touches by creating a custom design on the top of the table using a stencil and a dark wood stain.
The sisters' bar stools are in decent condition, but they decide to make them stand out with a bold geometric print fabric. They remove the old seat covers and use a staple gun to attach the new fabric, creating a vibrant and eye-catching look. They also decide to add a contrasting paint color to the legs, giving the stools a modern farmhouse feel.
At the end of day one, both teams feel confident in their designs. They head back to the flea market on day two with their newly transformed pieces, hoping to make a profit. The brothers decide to go with a higher price point for their coffee table, listing it for $400. The sisters opt for a lower price point, listing their bar stools for $150.
As the day goes on, both teams have trouble finding buyers for their pieces. The brothers are determined to hold out for their asking price, but after several hours with no luck, they decide to lower their price to $300. The sisters have several interested buyers but struggle to find someone willing to pay their asking price. Eventually, they decide to accept an offer of $120.
In the end, the brothers come out on top with a profit of $50, while the sisters only make a profit of $20. Both teams are proud of their designs, but it's clear that the brothers' modern coffee table was the more popular piece. The episode ends with both teams reflecting on what they've learned and looking forward to their next flea market finds.
