In season 6 episode 6 of Flea Market Flip, titled The Flipping Unicorn, host Lara Spencer welcomes two teams of skilled flippers to the Elephant's Trunk Flea Market in New Milford, Connecticut. Each team receives a budget of $500 to hunt for hidden gems among the market's vast array of antiques, collectibles, and vintage treasures.
The first team is made up of best friends Tori and Susan, who have been flipping furniture together for several years. They hope to discover unique pieces that they can refurbish and sell for a profit. The second team consists of newlyweds Tavia and Dominic, who see flipping as a way to bond and start their new life together. They plan to find items that reflect their eclectic tastes and transform them into stunning showpieces.
The teams have just one hour to shop before heading back to their workroom to begin the transformation process. They quickly dive into their piles of finds, sorting through old doors, chairs, and wall art. Tori and Susan discover a wooden dresser with ornate detailing and a set of antique oars, while Tavia and Dominic score an old violin and a set of vintage soda bottles.
Once the teams have selected their items, they get to work sanding, painting, and reupholstering. Tori and Susan decide to turn their dresser into a unique bar with a colorful ombré finish, while Tavia and Dominic transform their violin into a striking wall hanging using a variety of metallic paints.
As the hours tick by, tensions rise as both teams struggle to finish their projects before time runs out. Tori and Susan find themselves dealing with unforeseen complications, while Tavia and Dominic rush to put the finishing touches on their soda bottle display.
Finally, it's time for the teams to present their finished projects to Lara and the judges, designer Stephanie Wilder-Taylor and furniture expert Ron Kain. Tori and Susan unveil their stunning bar, complete with custom-made wine racks and playful unicorn accents. Tavia and Dominic showcase their eclectic soda bottle display, featuring a mix of vintage and new bottles paired with colorful graphic prints.
After careful deliberation, the judges make their decision, taking into account factors such as creativity, craftsmanship, and market appeal. The winning team not only gets bragging rights but also a cash prize of $5,000.
Overall, The Flipping Unicorn offers a glimpse into the exciting world of flea market flipping and showcases the ingenuity and creativity of the teams as they transform ordinary objects into one-of-a-kind treasures.
