Gypsies vs. Gents is the second episode of the sixth season of Flea Market Flip. This episode features two teams of two competing against each other to restore and redesign flea market finds and sell them for a profit. The teams consist of "The Gypsies," made up of a mother and daughter duo who specialize in bohemian designs and "The Gents," two friends who are self-proclaimed "vintage vultures" and are confident in their ability to transform any piece.
The teams are given a budget of $500 and are sent to the Stormville Airport Antique Show and Flea Market in Upstate New York to find three items to transform. The Gypsies quickly hone in on a small wooden bench, a metal tub, and a vintage washboard. They plan to incorporate the washboard into a unique entryway table and use the metal tub as a planter. The Gents opt for a large metal medical cabinet, a vintage school desk, and an old metal sign. They envision turning the cabinet into a bar and repurposing the sign into a coffee table.
After purchasing their items, the teams have one day to restore and redesign them. The Gypsies work on staining and painting the bench and incorporate the washboard into a unique entryway table. They also use fabric from an old dress to reupholster a cushion for the bench. The metal tub is painted and transformed into a planter with drainage holes drilled in the bottom. Meanwhile, The Gents begin working on turning the metal cabinet into a bar by adding shelves and decorative lighting. They sand and paint the school desk and turn it into a console table, and they cut the metal sign down to size and attach it to a sturdy base to create a coffee table.
Once their projects are complete, the teams bring their redesigned items to the Long Island City Flea Market in Queens, New York to sell. The Gypsies' entryway table immediately catches the eye of a potential buyer who admires its unique design. They also receive interest in their repurposed metal tub planter. The Gents' bar and coffee table draw in many passersby who are impressed by their attention to detail and vintage aesthetic. In the end, both teams are able to sell all three of their pieces, but only one team will come out on top with the highest profit margin.
As with every episode of Flea Market Flip, the real highlight is seeing the creative ways in which the teams transform their flea market finds. The Gypsies' bohemian style and The Gents' vintage aesthetic offer a unique contrast and make for an exciting competition. Viewers are left in anticipation to see which team will ultimately come out on top.
