In season 3, episode 5 of Flea Market Flip, titled "Sparks are Flying," we get to see two teams of savvy flea market flippers put their skills to the test in a head-to-head competition. Each team has a budget of $500 and just one hour to scour a nearby flea market for hidden gems that they can transform into stylish pieces of furniture.
First up is husband and wife team, Chris and Jen. They're up against their close friends, Lindsay and Kevin, who both have backgrounds in design and carpentry. The teams start off by scouting the market individually, seeking out unique items that they can breathe new life into.
Chris and Jen score a vintage highchair and a metal birdcage, while Lindsay and Kevin snatch up a wooden steamer trunk and a set of old-fashioned skis. With their finds in tow, the teams head to their respective workshops to start the transformation process.
Chris and Jen get to work on the highchair, sanding it down and adding a fresh coat of paint. They also decide to turn the birdcage into a chandelier. To do this, they outfit the cage with bulbs and a hanging chain, giving it a new lease on life as an eye-catching lighting fixture.
Meanwhile, Lindsay and Kevin are working on the steamer trunk, transforming it into a stylish bar cart. They remove the lid and add wheels before painting the entire thing matte black. They also use the skis to make a unique set of shelves, showcasing their creativity and skill.
As the day goes on, both teams face a number of challenges. Chris and Jen struggle with the wiring for the chandelier and have to call in some outside help to make sure it's up to snuff. Meanwhile, Lindsay and Kevin hit a roadblock when trying to attach the wheels to the bar cart, but they manage to improvise and get the job done.
After a long day of hard work, the teams reconvene at the flea market to showcase their completed projects. In a twist, they each get to set their own prices for their newly transformed items, adding an extra layer of strategy to the competition.
When the dust settles, the team with the most profit wins. But regardless of who comes out on top, both teams can be proud of the creative and stylish pieces they've brought to life. And the flea market shoppers can enjoy the fruits of their labor, admiring and purchasing these once-forgotten items that have been given a new lease on life thanks to the magic of flea market flipping.
