Flack is a dark comedy-drama television series that revolves around the life of an American public relations (PR) executive Robyn, who quit her job at a London-based PR firm and landed a job at Mills Paulson PR in London along with her best friend and colleague Eve. The show delves into the cutthroat world of celebrity PR and the lengths Robyn goes to in order to protect her clients.
The first episode of the show, titled Anthony, starts with Robyn (Anna Paquin) waking up next to a man she picked up from a bar. As she gets ready for work, she receives a call from her boss Caroline (Sophie Okonedo). Caroline tells Robyn that one of their biggest clients, Anthony (Max Beesley), a famous chef, has been caught on camera snorting cocaine.
Robyn immediately heads to Anthony's restaurant where she meets him and his wife, Melody (Rebecca Benson). Anthony denies all allegations, but the video evidence suggests otherwise. Robyn tells Anthony to go home and lie low while she comes up with a plan to handle the situation. She also instructs Melody not to speak to the press under any circumstances.
Meanwhile, Robyn's sister Ruth (Genevieve Angelson) shows up at her doorstep uninvited. Ruth is upset because she just found out that her husband is gay, and she wants Robyn to help her deal with the situation. Robyn is hesitant to get involved, but she eventually agrees to help Ruth.
Back at work, Robyn and Eve (Lydia Wilson) brainstorm different strategies to handle the Anthony situation. They decide to leak a story to the press that Anthony was suffering from a severe allergic reaction to a new medication he was taking, which caused him to act erratically. Robyn and Eve also convince Melody to do an exclusive interview with a journalist they trust.
As the day progresses, Robyn's personal life starts to overlap with her professional life. Ruth shows up at the restaurant where Anthony is hiding, and Robyn has to keep them apart. Later, Robyn's one-night stand calls her at work, and she has to deal with him while also juggling the Anthony crisis.
In the end, Robyn's plan works, and the story about Anthony's allergic reaction is picked up by the press. The interview with Melody also helps to paint Anthony in a sympathetic light. However, there is one final twist that leaves Robyn questioning whether she made the right decision.
Overall, the first episode of Flack sets the stage for what promises to be a wild ride. The show's dark humor, strong performances, and unpredictable plot twists make it an enjoyable watch. It also offers a glimpse into the world of celebrity PR and the moral ambiguity that comes with it. Fans of shows like Scandal and The Devil Wears Prada are sure to enjoy Flack.
