Ep 5. Michael & Alicia

Michael and Alicia are a young couple with a beautiful house in a great neighborhood, but unfortunately their backyard has remained unfinished and unusable for the past few years. They dream of being able to entertain friends and family in their backyard, but the disorganized and cluttered space doesn't make it very conducive to socializing. They've tried to tackle the project themselves, but they've hit a wall and can't seem to make any progress.

Enter landscape experts, Alan and Eric! These two experienced professionals are determined to transform Michael and Alicia's backyard into a beautiful and functional space that will perfectly suit the couple's lifestyle. The duo starts by assessing the space to get a clear idea of what they're working with, then they sit down with the couple to find out exactly what their needs and wants are for the space.

Alan and Eric quickly realize that the backyard is a disaster zone and requires a full overhaul. They start by tackling the largest project first, which is removing a giant, unsightly concrete slab. This is a daunting task that requires a lot of manpower, but the team is up to the challenge. They spend several hours breaking up the concrete and hauling it away, but the end result is worth it - the backyard already looks much more open and inviting.

Next on the agenda is building a fence to enclose the backyard and give the couple some much-needed privacy from their neighbors. Alan and Eric start by measuring the perimeter of the space, then they head to the hardware store to pick up all the materials they need. Once they return, they spend a day building the fence from scratch, carefully measuring each panel and securing them together with screws. By the end of the day, the backyard is starting to take shape and the couple can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

With the fence complete, Alan and Eric can now focus on the fun part - planning the landscaping and entertaining areas of the backyard. They decide to create a two-tiered space, with a cozy sitting area at the top and a larger entertaining area below. They start by laying down new grass to replace the patchy, worn-out lawn that was there before. It takes a bit of time to get the grass to properly root, but soon enough it's looking lush and green.

Next up is the sitting area, which Alan and Eric decide to make out of pavers and pea gravel. They carefully measure and lay each paver, taking care to ensure that everything is level and even. They then spread pea gravel around the pavers to give the area a more natural look. Finally, they add some comfortable outdoor furniture and a few potted plants to complete the cozy vibe.

The entertainment area below the sitting area is where the couple can really let loose and host parties and get-togethers. Alan and Eric decide to create a large paved area where the couple can set up tables and chairs for meals, as well as a fire pit where they can gather around and roast marshmallows on chilly nights. They carefully measure and lay each paver, ensuring that the surface is level and even. They also take care to add proper drainage so that water doesn't pool on the surface during heavy rains.

Finally, it's time for the finishing touches. Alan and Eric add some colorful flowers and plants around the perimeter of the space to add some natural beauty to the yard. They also add some decorative touches like string lights and outdoor candles to create a warm, inviting atmosphere. By the end of the project, Michael and Alicia's backyard has been completely transformed from a cluttered, unusable space to a beautiful, functional oasis that they can be proud to call their own.
