Ep 1. Five Owners

Five Bedrooms is an Australian television series that follows five strangers who meet at a wedding and end up impulsively buying a house together. Season 1 episode 1, titled Five Owners, introduces us to the five central characters and their individual struggles.

The episode opens with a wedding reception where the five main characters - Ben, Heather, Ainsley, Harry, and Liz - are all guests. After a drunken outburst, Ben suggests that they should all go in on a house together. The idea is initially met with laughter and skepticism, but as the night goes on, they all realize that they could really make it work. They pool their money and put in an offer on the house that they've been eyeing. The offer is accepted, and suddenly they're all joint owners of a house that they've never seen.

The rest of the episode focuses on the aftermath of their purchase. They all meet up at the house for the first time, and tensions immediately arise. The house is a fixer-upper, and they quickly realize that they have very different ideas about how to renovate it. Ainsley is excited about the potential of the house and wants to start making changes right away, while Liz is more concerned about the safety of her son and wants to make sure everything is up to code.

As they explore the house, they also start to learn more about each other. Ben is still raw from his separation and is struggling to move on, while Heather is trying to figure out how to be a single parent. Harry is dealing with job insecurity, and Ainsley is harboring a secret that she's afraid to tell her boyfriend.

The episode ends with the five of them sitting on the front steps of the house, looking out at the neighborhood. They realize that they're all in this together now, and that their lives are about to change in ways they never imagined.
