The show First Nations Comedy Experience from Comedy Dynamics is a unique and hilarious showcase of Indigenous comedians, filmed live at the Bellco Theatre in Denver, Colorado. Hosted by Nikki Glaser and Pete Lee, the show features seven different comedians from various tribes across North America, delivering their own brand of humor and perspective on life.

Throughout the show, Glaser and Lee introduce each comedian and engage in some light banter to keep the energy up. They also share a bit of their own personal experiences and feelings about performing at such an important and culturally significant event. As non-Indigenous comedians, they do a great job of acknowledging their privilege and respecting the space they are in.

The first comedian to take the stage is Howie Miller, a Cree comedian from Canada who has been performing for over 20 years. He immediately gets the crowd laughing with his stories about his family and the challenges of Indigenous dating. He also uses his platform to address some serious issues, such as the lack of clean water on reserves and the importance of preserving Indigenous languages.

Next up is Ryan McMahon, a Anishinaabe comedian and writer who brings a refreshing and unique voice to the stage. He shares stories about his childhood on the reserve, his experiences as a father, and his thoughts on the political climate in Canada. His humor is sharp and often biting, but always delivered with heart and sincerity.

Following McMahon is Don Burnstick, a Cree comedian and motivational speaker whose energy and stage presence are infectious. He tells hilarious stories about growing up on the reserve and navigating the challenges of addiction and recovery. He also shares his perspective on the importance of healing and forgiveness within communities.

The fourth comedian to perform is Leonard Sumner, an Anishinaabe singer-songwriter and comedian who combines music with stand-up to create a truly unique performance. He sings songs about his experiences growing up on the reserve and the struggles of Indigenous people in Canada. He also delivers some biting commentary on colonization and the ongoing battle for Indigenous rights.

For the fifth act, the stage is taken over by Chantal Spitz, a powerful and hilarious Anishinaabe comedian and storyteller. She shares personal anecdotes about her family and her struggles with mental health, as well as some pointed commentary on colonialism and the representation of Indigenous people in media.

The next comedian to perform is Joey Clift, a Cowlitz comedian and writer who brings an irreverent and absurd sense of humor to the stage. He tells stories about his experiences as a youth minister and his ridiculous encounters with police officers. He also uses his platform to highlight the importance of allyship and understanding for marginalized communities.

Finally, the headline act of the night is Tonia Jo Hall, a Hidasta and Oneida comedian and motivational speaker who brings a powerful and uplifting energy to the stage. She shares stories about her childhood on the reservation, her journey to self-acceptance, and the importance of embracing one's identity. Her humor is filled with heart and encouragement, leaving the audience feeling inspired and empowered.

Overall, First Nations Comedy Experience is a fantastic showcase of Indigenous comedians and their unique perspectives and talents. The show is filled with laughter, heart, and important messages about Indigenous rights and representation. Nikki Glaser and Pete Lee do a great job of hosting and adding their own humor and perspective without overshadowing the main event. This is a must-watch for anyone who loves comedy and wants to support Indigenous voices in entertainment.
