Ep 22. Ice Cold in Pontypandy

Fireman Sam season 8 episode 22, "Ice Cold in Pontypandy" begins as the citizens of Pontypandy eagerly await the arrival of the brave firefighters back from their annual "Fire Department Cold Water Challenge" charity event. Sam, Elvis, Penny, and Station Officer Steele return to a freezing Pontypandy with their prize cup. With the charity event behind them, the team is ready for their next challenge.

Penny comes up with a great idea for the team to take a break by organizing a camping trip in the mountains. The entire team, along with their families, set out on the adventure. They change into their camping wear and get some warm food cooking by starting a campfire.

Suddenly, when they wake up the next morning they discover that the temperature has plummeted overnight. Everything in the forest is covered in ice, turning hiking and equipment handling into a dangerous task. The team decides on taking a small hike into the mountains on a trial that awards them with a beautiful mountain view. Once they get to the top, they realize that they have been followed by a group of animals, one of whom is an Arctic fox.

As the team starts their descent, they come across a frozen lake. In their attempt to cross it, they fall in and soon discover that the Arctic fox has gone missing. They split into two groups; one group stays on land, with the other group getting into an inflatable raft to search the water. The lake is large and it is time-consuming to search for the Arctic fox. It becomes quickly apparent that it is not the only thing missing--Penny also vanishes from the group.

The rest of the team are stunned and become frantic as they search for her. They hear noise coming from the boy's group, who have made their way across the lake and are afraid that they may have found Penny's body in the water. They soon realize that it is not Penny, but a missing fisherman that they have found. The situation becomes dire and the team begins to worry about hypothermia and whether they can stay warm in the wilderness.

The team continues to search for Penny with little luck. They try to keep an eye out for any trail markers and clues. Meanwhile, Penny is fending for herself as she has ended up in a cave on the mountain. Her mind is preoccupied with thoughts of being rescued soon. As the search team continues to survey the landscape, they suddenly hear a noise and move closer to investigate. They come upon her tracks in the snow and finally, Penny is rescued after a long search.

After the close call with hypothermia and frostbite, the team realizes that they are out of their depth in the wilderness and decide to pack up and head back to Pontypandy. They all agree that it was an adventure and wonder what their next big challenge will be.
