The episode begins with Mike and Norman Price working on their rocket at the fire station. They have been working tirelessly on the project, and Mike is confident that the rocket will be a success. He has even built a control box to steer the rocket remotely, much to the amusement of Sam, who is skeptical about the idea.
Meanwhile, the children of Pontypandy are eagerly anticipating Science Day, where they can showcase their science projects. Mandy tries to convince her mother to let her take her pet snails to Science Day, while Sarah and James prepare their volcano experiment.
On the day of the launch, Mike and Norman arrive at the launch site accompanied by Sam, Elvis, and Penny. They set up their rocket and begin the countdown. The fire crew quickly spring into action, and Sam takes charge of the situation. He orders Elvis to clear the area while he and Penny use the hose to steer the rocket away from the people. Mike is devastated that his rocket has been destroyed, and he blames himself for the disaster. But Sam reassures him that accidents happen, and the important thing is that no one was hurt. Later on, Mike comes up with a new idea for his Science Day project and builds a telescope, much to the delight of the children.
