- March 19, 2020
In the series premiere of Feel Good, we meet Mae, a Canadian comedian living in London who is struggling to balance her personal life and career. She performs stand-up at a local club where she meets George, a charming and reserved woman who catches her eye.
The two are immediately drawn to each other and begin a relationship, but Mae's past struggles with substance abuse and codependency threaten to derail their budding romance. George is hesitant to fully commit to Mae, as she fears being dragged down by her partner's addiction issues.
Meanwhile, Mae's estranged mother Linda shows up unexpectedly at her doorstep, hoping to reconnect after years of little contact. Mae is hesitant to welcome her back into her life, but Linda insists on making amends and being a part of her daughter's life again.
As Mae navigates her relationships with both George and Linda, she grapples with her own fears and insecurities. She attends a support group for addiction and begins to confront her past traumas and the underlying reasons for her substance abuse.
Throughout the episode, we see glimpses of Mae's stand-up comedy routine, which reflects her struggles with love, identity, and addiction. It serves as both a release for her emotions and a source of anxiety, as the ever-critical audience can often be unforgiving.
Feel Good balances humor and heartbreak in its first episode, setting the stage for a complex and personal exploration of addiction, love, and self-discovery. Mae is a flawed and relatable protagonist who struggles to find her place in the world, but viewers will undoubtedly root for her as she confronts her demons head-on.
