Ep 10. Checks and Balances

After the shocking events of the previous episode, the team is still reeling from the loss of one of their own. In "Checks and Balances," they are forced to pick up the pieces and continue their investigation into a white-collar crime ring.

The episode begins with Assistant Special Agent in Charge Jubal Valentine (played by Jeremy Sisto) meeting with a financial analyst who has discovered some suspicious activity at a major investment firm. Jubal starts to dig deeper, and soon realizes that the firm is involved in a massive Ponzi scheme which has defrauded thousands of people out of their life savings.

Meanwhile, Special Agent Maggie Bell (played by Missy Peregrym) and her partner, Special Agent OA Zidan (played by Zeeko Zaki), are tasked with tracking down a suspect who has been using forged checks to launder money for the crime ring. Their investigation leads them to a barber shop in a rough neighborhood, where they find the suspect - but things quickly go south and they end up in a dangerous standoff.

As tensions rise, Maggie and OA must use all of their training and expertise to negotiate a peaceful resolution and bring the suspect to justice. Along the way, they uncover new clues that shed light on the larger conspiracy they are working to unravel.

Back at the FBI office, Special Agent Isobel Castille (played by Alana De La Garza) is grappling with her own demons as she tries to process the loss of her colleague and mentor. She finds solace in the guidance of assistant general counsel Linda Barnes (played by recurring guest star Janeane Garofalo), who helps her to see that the best way to honor her friend's memory is to continue fighting for justice.

As the episode comes to a close, the team is left to contemplate the high stakes of their work and the sacrifices they must make in order to keep society safe. "Checks and Balances" is a compelling and emotional installment of FBI that showcases the best of what the show has to offer - intense action, thought-provoking drama, and complex character relationships.
