Fate/EXTRA Last Encore is an anime television series that was produced by Type-Moon and Shaft. It was directed by Akiyuki Shinbo and written by Kinoko Nasu, who had worked on the Fate/stay night visual novel series. The show premiered in Japan on Tokyo MX on January 27, 2018, and ran for 13 episodes.

The story of Fate/EXTRA Last Encore takes place in a virtual reality called the Moon Cell, which was created by a powerful mage named Alice Treachery. In this world, mages called Masters enter battles in order to earn the right to have their wishes granted by the Holy Grail.

The protagonist of the series is a high school student named Hakuno Kishinami, who wakes up in the Moon Cell with no memories. Along with a mysterious ally named Saber, Hakuno enters the Holy Grail War and begins fighting against other Masters.

The show is a continuation of the Fate/EXTRA video game, but the anime adaptation features some changes to the story and characters. For example, Hakuno's gender can be chosen by the player in the game, but in the anime, Hakuno is portrayed as a male character.

The animation in Fate/EXTRA Last Encore is done by Shaft, a studio known for their distinct visual style. The characters have a uniquely stylized appearance that is reminiscent of other Shaft anime such as Madoka Magica and Monogatari.

In addition to the main characters, Fate/EXTRA Last Encore features a large cast of supporting characters, each with their own motivations and personalities. Some of these characters are based on historical or mythological figures, such as Francis Drake and Robin Hood.

Despite being set in a virtual reality, Fate/EXTRA Last Encore explores themes such as identity, memory, and the nature of reality. The show raises questions about what it means to be human, and whether a virtual world can be considered as valid as the real one.

Overall, Fate/EXTRA Last Encore is a visually stunning anime with a complex and thought-provoking story. Fans of the Fate franchise and Shaft's animation style are sure to enjoy this adaptation of the video game.
