Shirou and Saber continue their investigation of the recent string of deaths in Fuyuki City. Their search ultimately leads them to a church where they encounter Kirei Kotomine, the overseer of the Holy Grail War. Kirei reveals that he has been gathering information on the participants of the war and offers to share his findings with Shirou. However, Shirou is wary of Kirei's motives and declines his offer.
Meanwhile, Archer confronts Rin and accuses her of being too soft-hearted and emotionally attached to her servants. He suggests that she should cut ties with them in order to achieve victory in the war. Rin finds Archer's words to be callous and refuses to accept them.
Later, Shirou and Saber's investigation leads them to a mysterious mansion where they encounter Caster and her servant. Caster reveals that she is the one behind the recent deaths in the city and that she has been targeting mages in order to gather magical energy. She offers to spare Shirou and Saber if they agree to join forces with her, but they refuse.
As a result, a battle ensues between Caster and her servant and Shirou and Saber. Despite their best efforts, they are overpowered by Caster's magic and are on the brink of defeat. However, they are saved by the arrival of Archer, who had been secretly monitoring the situation.
Archer engages in battle with Caster while Shirou and Saber make their escape. As they flee, Shirou realizes that he is beginning to have feelings for Saber and wonders if it is possible for them to have a future together. However, their thoughts are interrupted by the sound of a dissonant melody echoing through the mansion.
Overall, the eighth episode of Fate/stay night season one is filled with action and suspense. Viewers are treated to an intense battle between Caster and Archer, as well as a tender moment between Shirou and Saber. The introduction of Kirei Kotomine adds a new layer of complexity to the storyline, leaving viewers wondering what his true motives are.
