Shirou Emiya is a high school student who lost his parents in a huge fire years ago. He was rescued by a magus named Kiritsugu Emiya, who died in the same incident. After his death, Shirou was taken in by Kiritsugu's friend, Taiga Fujimura, and her family. Despite suffering a traumatic event, Shirou appears to be a normal teenager, but he is hiding a secret. He has inherited the power of magic from his father, who was a magus, and dreams of becoming a Hero of Justice.
In the second episode of Fate/stay night, titled Night of Fate, Shirou awakens from a nightmare, remembering his past and his desire to become a hero. He goes to school, where he meets his friend, Sakura Matou and his classmate, Rin Tohsaka, who is a powerful magus. Rin is the one who saved Shirou from the Archer's attack in the previous episode. She tells him that he is Rin’s Servant, and that he needs to cooperate with her if he wants to survive the Holy Grail War. The Holy Grail War is a battle between seven magi and their summoned Servants, which takes place every sixty years. The winner of the war will receive the Holy Grail, which can grant any wish.
Shirou is confused by Rin's words and doesn't understand why he is a Servant. However, he agrees to cooperate as long as he can become a hero. Rin tells him that his Servant, Saber, is a powerful knight from the past who will lead him to victory. Saber is loyal and obedient, and will do anything to help him win the war. Shirou is skeptical, but he agrees to work with Rin and Saber.
Meanwhile, Rin is also preparing for the upcoming battle. She is confident that she can win because she comes from a long line of powerful magi. However, things won't be easy for her, as she has to compete against other powerful magi who will stop at nothing to get the Holy Grail. Rin also has to keep a low profile because the church is watching her every move.
In the evening, Saber wakes up and tells Shirou that they need to train. She takes him to an abandoned building, where she begins to teach him the basics of sword fighting. Shirou is hesitant at first, but he quickly realizes that Saber is an excellent teacher and that he has a natural talent for fighting. Saber also tells him that he needs to learn to control his powers, or he will put himself and his friends in danger.
The training is interrupted by an attack from Archer, who has come to kill Saber and Shirou. He is a powerful Servant who possesses a bow and is skilled in long-range combat. Shirou and Saber try to fight him, but they are overwhelmed by his strength and agility. Rin arrives just in time to save them, using her magic to deflect Archer's arrows.
Archer disappears, leaving Shirou and Saber shaken. Rin explains that Archer is one of the other Servants in the war and that he is a dangerous opponent. She tells them that they need to be careful and that they should avoid him if possible. Rin also reveals that she has no intention of working with them because she wants to win the war on her own.
Shirou is disappointed but understands that he needs to focus on his own goals. He wants to become a hero and to protect his friends and the people he loves. Shirou vows to become stronger and to win the war, no matter what the cost.
In conclusion, Night of Fate is an action-packed episode that introduces the main characters and sets the stage for the Holy Grail War.
