John Crichton finds himself once again in the crosshairs of a dangerous enemy. This time, it's the Scarrens who have their sights set on him. After a failed mission to destroy a Scarren dreadnought, Crichton and the crew of Moya find themselves on the verge of total defeat. But help comes from an unexpected source--Jack Crichton, John's father.
Jack has developed a wormhole technology that could change the course of the war, but it comes with a hefty price tag. He demands that his son help him perfect the technology before handing it over to the military. John is conflicted. He wants to save his friends and end the war, but to do so he must help create a weapon that could be used for unimaginable destruction.
Meanwhile, Aeryn Sun struggles with her own demons. She begins to have vivid dreams of her former self, a peacekeeper, and her past lover, Velorek. These dreams are unsettling to Aeryn, who has worked hard to distance herself from her past. But they also force her to confront her own beliefs and motivations. Can she continue to follow John, even if it means leaving behind everything she once knew?
As the crew works to perfect the wormhole technology and stay one step ahead of the Scarrens, tensions run high. Relationships are strained, loyalties are tested, and no one knows what the future holds. But one thing is certain--the decisions they make now will have far-reaching consequences.
