Crichton and the Moya crew are exploring the galaxy when they come across a strange and seemingly abandoned ship. Upon boarding the vessel, they discover that the crew is actually in a state of suspended animation, and that their bodies are being harvested for an unknown purpose.
As they investigate further, they learn that the ship's owner, a powerful and wealthy businessman, has developed a machine that can extract the essence of a person's soul or life force, known as vitas. He is using this machine to extend his own life at the expense of others.
When one of Moya's crew members is captured and subjected to the machine, they must race against time to save their friend and put an end to the ruthless harvesting of vitas.
Meanwhile, tensions arise between Moya's crew as they struggle to identify their roles and responsibilities within the group. Crichton finds himself at odds with Aeryn, who he feels is not taking their mission seriously enough. Zhaan seeks to resolve the conflict through meditation and introspection, while D'Argo takes a more aggressive and confrontational approach.
As the crew navigates this challenging situation, they are forced to confront their own mortality and the high stakes of their dangerous and unpredictable adventures. Ultimately, they must come together as a team and rely on each other's unique strengths and perspectives in order to survive and triumph over their enemies.
