John Crichton, the astronaut from Earth, wakes up in a strange alien world with no clear memory of how he got there. Struggling with his amnesia, he quickly realizes that something is very off about this place. The previously dead have come back to life, and his friend Aeryn is seemingly not herself. As he attempts to piece together what's happening, he finds himself caught up in a web of deceptions and lies.
Farscape Season 2 Episode 15 "Won't Get Fooled Again" begins with John Crichton waking up in a white room. He tries to leave, but the doors won't open. Suddenly, an old friend appears, but something isn't quite right. D'Argo is alive, even though Crichton saw him die. Moreover, everyone seems to be well-dressed and financially well-off. Despite the oddness of his new reality, Crichton tries to adapt to it and maintains hope that he'll eventually get back to his normal life.
Crichton soon gets a chance to ask questions when a man in black appears and starts interrogating him. The person wants to know why Crichton has been resisting the new reality and why he doesn't accept it. After Crichton refuses to provide any answers, he is thrown back into his white room. The man in black reappears and reveals the truth to Crichton; he's the only one who isn't affected by some kind of brainwashing technique that's putting the others in a dream-like state.
Crichton has to figure out what's happening and how to break the spell. As he stumbles through the white corridors of his new reality, he sees a caricature of Scorpius and others such as Rygel and Jool. He realizes that the ones who are now "in charge" of the world are all former enemies that he has fought with in past battles. Crichton has to escape the present reality and find out a way to bring everyone back to their real senses by breaking the brainwashing spell.
Throughout the episode, there are many references to pop culture, particularly 60s and 70s rock music. For example, one of the episodes' titles "Won't Get Fooled Again" is a song by The Who. Similarly, when Crichton meets Rygel, he realizes that the former Dominar has taken on the persona of a rockstar like Elvis Presley, with the 9th rockstar Zhaan in tow.
Farscape Season 2 Episode 15 "Won't Get Fooled Again" is well-known as one of the show's strongest episodes, primarily due to its unusual structure and style. The episode seems like a departure from the rest of the series, with unusual camera angles and a surrealistic tone. At the same time, it features some of the show's most memorable lines, such as "Harvey, you're my imaginary friend, you don't count." The episode ends on a note high of revelation and conflict- Crichton realizing the importance of distinguishing between reality and false reality and taking actions to ensure the safety of himself and his team.
Overall, Farscape Season 2 Episode 15 is a gripping episode that highlights the show's strengths in characterization, creativity, and humor. It showcases a reality that appears as a dream at first, armed with humor and pop culture references, but carries a dark side when all is revealed. The episode exemplifies the power that TV shows can have when they push boundaries and take risks.
