Alex P. Keaton meets his match when he falls for a free-spirited artist named Suzanne, played by Geena Davis. Suzanne's bohemian lifestyle is the complete opposite of Alex's conservative values and intellectual personality. As they begin dating, Alex struggles to reconcile his feelings for her with his own beliefs.
Meanwhile, Elyse takes on a new job as a substitute teacher at a local high school. When her son, Alex, finds out that one of her students is making a move on her, he becomes overly protective and confronts the young man, causing a scene in the classroom.
As Alex and Suzanne's relationship becomes more serious, they clash over their differing worldviews. Alex tries to win her over with logic and reason while Suzanne challenges him to let go of his rigid beliefs and embrace the unknown. Their conflict comes to a head when Suzanne invites Alex to a party at her artist studio, where he feels out of place and uncomfortable with her unconventional friends and their lifestyles.
Meanwhile, Jennifer and Mallory participate in a big sister program and are paired up with two young girls from the community. Mallory struggles to connect with her little sister while Jennifer takes an instant liking to hers, trying to make up for the fact that she doesn't have an older sister herself.
As the episode unfolds, the Keaton family learns valuable lessons about acceptance, open-mindedness, and the importance of being true to oneself. Though Alex and Suzanne's relationship may not work out in the end, they both grow from the experience, learning more about themselves and each other than they ever thought possible.
