Carl is extremely excited about this year's Christmas season and he does everything in his power to make it the best Christmas ever for his family. However, things hit a bump when he realizes that he has to work double shifts at the police precinct during Christmas Eve, which leaves the family disappointed.
Meanwhile, Harriette and Rachel are struggling to prepare for Christmas as they are running late with their shopping and gift wrapping. Despite their initial frustrations, the women decide to team up and work together to make sure the gifts are ready on time. But their efforts are hindered when they find out that the wrapping paper has run out and they have to come up with a quick solution.
The Winslow family also decides to come together and create new traditions for their Christmas celebration. Eddie plans to share the joy with elderly people in a local hospital, while Harriette and Rachel suggest a secret Santa game among family members. The game quickly gets out of hand when Carl receives a gift that upsets him. In the midst of the chaos, Laura tries to repair the damage by bringing back the true spirit of Christmas.
