Carl and Steve both have their hands full when they are put in charge of the children for a night. When Harriette and Rachel go to a women's symposium, Carl and Steve are each tasked with watching their own kids as well as the other's. Eddie and Laura want to go to a party and invite their cousin, Richie, to come along. Though both parents say no, the kids manage to talk Steve into letting them go.
Meanwhile, Carl tries to get baby Richie to sleep, but he won't stop crying. Carl is running out of ways to soothe him and resorts to calling Harriette for help. Harriette suggests they try singing to him, and it works like a charm. They start singing "Come on, Get Happy," and Richie falls asleep mid-song.
The kids make it to the party, but it's not what they expected. The party is being thrown by a group of college students, and things quickly get out of hand. Laura and Eddie quickly realize that they made a mistake and call Steve to come pick them up. However, when Steve arrives, he's surprised to find that the kids are actually having a good time. He decides to let them stay a little longer, but they soon realize that things are getting dangerous and decide to leave after all.
Back at the Winslow's, Carl and Steve are exhausted from taking care of the kids. They both agree that being a parent is no easy task and that they have newfound respect for Harriette and Rachel. The episode ends with the family all back together again, happy and exhausted after a long night.
"Whose Kid Is it Anyway?" is a classic episode of Family Matters that explores the challenges of parenting, even for those who aren't the kids' biological parents. The episode is filled with plenty of laughs and heartwarming moments, as Carl and Steve struggle to keep their respective broods under control. Eddie and Laura's antics at the party add a touch of drama, but ultimately it's the love and support of the family that shines through.
