In Family Guy season 5 episode 6, titled “Prick Up Your Ears,” Peter and Lois decide to spice up their love life by getting ear piercings. However, they soon find out that they have very different ideas of what constitutes a sexy ear piercing. While Lois opts for a simple and tasteful stud, Peter goes all out with a giant diamond hoop. This difference in taste causes tension in their relationship.
Meanwhile, Stewie becomes obsessed with a British children’s show called “Jolly Farm Review,” much to Brian’s annoyance. Stewie begins to imitate the show’s host, Old MacDonald, and even dresses up like him. Brian tries to discourage Stewie’s behavior, but his efforts are in vain.
As the episode progresses, the tension between Peter and Lois continues to grow. They start to bicker over everything from household chores to their clothing choices. In an attempt to save their marriage, they decide to go on a romantic weekend getaway at a bed and breakfast.
However, things don’t go as planned when they find out that the bed and breakfast is actually a converted mental institution. The other guests are all eccentric and a bit unhinged, and Peter and Lois are forced to share a room with a creepy couple who are into some rather unusual activities.
Back in Quahog, Stewie’s obsession with “Jolly Farm Review” reaches a new level when he kidnaps the show’s star, Old MacDonald. Stewie keeps Old MacDonald locked up in his playroom and forces him to perform the show for him around the clock. Brian tries to rescue Old MacDonald, but he is thwarted at every turn by Stewie’s traps and booby traps.
At the bed and breakfast, things continue to spiral out of control for Peter and Lois. They soon discover that the creepy couple they are sharing a room with are actually swingers who want to swap partners with them. Peter is initially intrigued by the idea, but Lois is disgusted and storms out of the room.
As the episode comes to a close, Peter and Lois reconcile and realize that they love each other, despite their differences. Stewie finally releases Old MacDonald, but not before he has completely ruined the beloved children’s show for himself.
“Prick Up Your Ears” is a humorous and slightly edgy episode of Family Guy that deals with issues of love, marriage, and obsession. It features the show’s trademark irreverent humor and is sure to entertain longtime fans of the series.
