In "Better Off Meg," the eighteenth episode of Family Guy's eighteenth season, the show delves into the character of Meg. Meg, the family's underappreciated and often maligned teenage daughter, decides to leave the Griffin household and strike out on her own.
Meg gets a job at a fast food restaurant, and suddenly finds herself enjoying her newfound independence. However, things quickly take a turn for the worse when she realizes that the manager at the restaurant is up to some shady business. Meg decides to take matters into her own hands and attempt to bring the manager's underhanded operations to light.
Meanwhile, back at home, the rest of the Griffin family begins to realize just how much they've taken Meg for granted. As they start to feel the absence of their oft-maligned daughter, they begin to see her in a new light.
As the episode progresses, the two storylines weave together in classic Family Guy fashion. Meg finds herself in increasingly dangerous situations as she tries to expose the fast food manager's illegal dealings, while the rest of the family desperately tries to track her down and bring her back home.
In the end, "Better Off Meg" offers a poignant look into the complex relationships between family members, as well as a surprisingly compelling narrative centered around the oft-overlooked character of Meg. The episode is a standout in an already impressive season of Family Guy, and is sure to be a fan favorite.
