The show Family Affair follows the life of a bachelor named Bill Davis who becomes the guardian of his nieces and nephew, Buffy, Jody and Cissy, after their parents die. Season 1 episode 7 is titled No Small Parts.
In this episode, Bill is excited to direct the school play, but his plans are upended when Mr. French, the family’s butler, comes down with the flu. To make matters worse, Cissy injures her ankle and is unable to participate in the play. This leaves Bill and the kids scrambling to find a replacement for her role.
Jody, the youngest of the Davis children, suggests that his friend, Ronnie, could fill in for Cissy. However, Ronnie is hesitant to join the play because he doesn’t want to be seen as a “sissy” for performing in a play. Despite this, Jody manages to convince Ronnie to audition for the part. To his surprise, Ronnie actually has a talent for acting and ends up being cast as Cissy’s replacement.
As the play approaches, tensions rise when Jody’s hamster, Sydney, goes missing. Jody is devastated and blames Ronnie for the loss of his pet. However, things take a turn when Buffy and Cissy discover Sydney hiding in a prop box at the theater. Jody is elated to be reunited with his pet and forgives Ronnie for inadvertently causing him distress.
On the night of the play, things seem to be going smoothly until the lead actor forgets his lines. However, the quick-thinking Ronnie saves the day by improvising and keeping the scene going. His performance is a hit with the audience and earns him a standing ovation.
In the end, Bill is proud of the kids for pulling off a successful play under difficult circumstances. He also thanks Ronnie for his help and tells him that he has a real future in the theater. Ronnie is surprised by the compliment, but also grateful for the opportunities that Bill and the Davis family have given him.
Overall, Family Affair season 1 episode 7 is a heartwarming story about overcoming obstacles and discovering hidden talents. It showcases the strong bond between the Davis children and the positive impact that Bill has had on their lives.
