Falling Water was a supernatural drama television series that aired on USA Network from 2016 to 2018. The show was created by Blake Masters and Henry Bromell and focused on the idea of interconnected dreams and hidden meanings behind them. The series was set in present-day New York City and followed three unrelated individuals whose worlds eventually collided. Tess was a successful art dealer who was haunted by a recurring dream of a child drowning in a bathtub. Burton, a former soldier, worked for an investment firm and was tasked with acquiring unique objects for his wealthy clients. Lastly, Taka was a detective who was investigating a mysterious case of exploding dreams.
As the show developed, we begin to realise that these three individuals were not as unrelated as they appeared at first. The common thread between them was their ability to enter into each other's dreams and the presence of a mysterious character known as "The Woman in Red."
Falling Water was an incredibly imaginative show that explored the idea that dreams could be a portal to parallel dimensions. Each episode featured a number of interconnected dreams that seemed to have hidden meanings behind them. As the series progressed, the characters began to realise that they were not the only ones with this ability, and there were those who were willing to use it for their own gain.
The show had a strong cast that brought the characters to life. Tessa Thompson, who played Tess, perfectly captured the fear and insecurity of someone trying to unravel the meaning behind their recurring dreams. David Ajala, who played Burton, brought a sense of mystery and danger to the series with his character's morally ambiguous actions. Lastly, Will Yun Lee, who played Taka, portrayed the detective's frustration and confusion as he attempted to solve the case of exploding dreams.
In addition to its strong cast and imaginative storyline, Falling Water was visually stunning. Each dream sequence was beautifully shot and edited, often blurring the line between what was real and what was imagined. The use of colour was especially noteworthy, with the colour red often appearing in symbolic and significant moments.
While the first season of Falling Water was highly praised for its creativity and originality, the second season was met with mixed reviews. Some felt that it lost the momentum of the first season, with too many storylines and characters to keep track of. Others enjoyed the expansion of the show's lore and the introduction of new characters.
Despite its cancellation in 2018 after two seasons, Falling Water remains a cult favourite among fans of supernatural dramas. Its unique take on dreaming and its connection to parallel dimensions make for a thought-provoking and engaging viewing experience.
Falling Water is a series that ran for 2 seasons (20 episodes) between October 13, 2016 and on USA Network
