In His Father's House is the first episode of season 1 of the popular TV show Falcon Crest. The show is a drama that revolves around the lives of two rival families, the Channings and the Giobertis, who both own vineyards in the Tuscany Valley.
In this episode, we are introduced to the main characters of the show, including Angela Channing (Jane Wyman), who is the matriarch of the Channing family and runs Falcon Crest Vineyard. We also meet her grandson, Chase (Robert Foxworth), who has just returned home from New York after finishing his military service. We learn that his father, Richard, had passed away while he was away and this is the first time he is seeing his family since returning.
As the episode progresses, we see the power struggle between the Channings and the Giobertis, with each family trying to gain control over the other's vineyards. Angela is particularly interested in acquiring the Falcon Crest land owned by the Giobertis, which has a special soil that would be perfect for growing her grapes.
Meanwhile, we also see the personal lives of the characters, including the romantic tension between Chase and his childhood friend, Vickie Gioberti (Jamie Rose), who is part of the rival family. We also learn that Chase has a younger sister, Emma (Margaret Ladd), who is a recovering drug addict and has been sent to live with Angela to get her life back on track.
As the tensions between the two families escalate, we see several confrontations, including a heated argument between Angela and Vickie's father, Carlo (Carlos Romero), who refuses to sell his land to her. The episode ends with a shocking twist that sets up the conflict for the rest of the season.
In His Father's House sets up the premise of the show and introduces the audience to the complicated relationships between the characters, as well as the cutthroat business world of winemaking. With its compelling storylines and talented cast, Falcon Crest quickly became a hit in the 1980s and continued for nine seasons.
