Recognizing the severity of the situation, the girls work together to keep warm and lift each other's spirits.
The girls pass the time by playing games and drinking hot chocolate, but as the hours pass, they become increasingly worried about Mrs. Garrett and their own safety. Eventually, they decide to walk back to Eastland. Along the way, they come across an abandoned house and take shelter inside. While inside, they discover a dog who has been abandoned in the cold and work together to rescue him.
As the girls continue their journey back to Eastland, they face various obstacles including getting lost and encountering some dangerous icicles. However, they persevere and finally make it back to the school safely. Once back, the girls find out that Mrs. Garrett has also made it back safely, thanks to a couple of kind strangers who helped dig her car out of the snow.
In the aftermath of their ordeal, the girls reflect on the importance of perseverance and teamwork. They also realize how lucky they were to have each other during their time of need.
