Blair receives a prestigious award from Eastland Academy for her high academic achievement. However, she feels that her accomplishment is not genuine because she had previously cheated in a math exam. This guilt haunts her and causes her to have nightmares.
Meanwhile, Tootie is tasked with writing an article about Lenny, a boy who plays the drums differently than most people due to his hearing impairment. He plays using a technique called "visual drumming," where he watches the different drum parts instead of hearing them. Tootie is initially reluctant to do the article, but she is quickly inspired by Lenny's passion and perseverance.
Tootie shares her story with Blair, hoping to alleviate some of her guilt. Blair is skeptical but eventually meets Lenny during a drumming session. She is inspired by his creativity and the way he adapts to his surroundings. Blair realizes that integrity and hard work are more important than a mere award.
Meanwhile, Mrs. Garrett is worried about the future of the school because of budget cuts. She enlists the girls' help to create a fundraiser to save the school. They decide to organize a talent show, and Lenny agrees to perform.
The talent show is a success, with Lenny's performance being the highlight. Blair publicly confesses her cheating to the audience, but instead of being met with ridicule, she is applauded for her honesty. In the end, the school is saved, and the girls learn the importance of integrity, perseverance, and the value of friendship.
