Blair and Jo are in the middle of studying for a test in their room when they hear a baby crying outside in the hallway. They go out to investigate and find a basket with a baby inside sitting at the end of the hallway. Shocked and unsure of what to do, Blair and Jo bring the baby inside their room and immediately call Mrs. Garrett.
Mrs. Garrett quickly comes over and identifies the baby as the child of a student at Eastland, who had given birth unexpectedly and was unable to care for the baby. Mrs. Garrett takes the baby to the infirmary to be checked out and keeps her overnight until they can find a solution.
Meanwhile, Blair and Jo are left wondering how they are going to take care of the baby in their small dormitory room. Tootie and Natalie come to visit and offer their help, but the girls quickly realize that taking care of a baby is much harder than they anticipated.
As they struggle to feed, change, and entertain the baby, Blair and Jo start to feel overwhelmed and frustrated. Tootie and Natalie try to help as much as they can, but it ultimately falls on Blair and Jo to care for the baby.
The girls soon realize that they need more help than just their friends and Mrs. Garrett. They reach out to a local church and speak with the pastor, who is happy to have volunteers from the congregation assist in caring for the baby.
With the help of the church volunteers, the girls are able to get more rest and take care of the baby more effectively. They learn that asking for help and relying on others is not a sign of weakness, but a necessary part of caring for someone else.
As the episode comes to a close, the student who gave birth returns to Eastland and is reunited with her baby. Blair and Jo, although relieved to no longer be caring for the baby, feel a sense of sadness and loss as they return to their normal routine. They reflect on their experience and the lessons they learned while taking care of the baby.
