The eighth season of Face Off brings renowned special effects makeup artists from around the world. Each episode features exciting challenges which test the creativity and skills of the contestants, with the last person standing being crowned the winner. In season 8, episode 10, called "Super Selfies," the competitors are presented with one of the most unusual challenges yet.

The show opens with host McKenzie Westmore asking the remaining contestants to create superhero makeups - not for themselves, but for their family members! Each one must design, create, paint, and perfect a superhero look that would fit well with one of their family members' characteristics, behaviors, or wants. The contestants have to do extensive research for their family members and decide what is the perfect superhero for them.

After each individual completes their unique superhero makeup, the contestants gather on the challenge floor for inspection and judgment of their work. The veteran judges, Glenn Hetrick, Ve Neill, and Neville Page, join the super-specific guest judge, Hollywood's own Lex Scott. The judges analyze each design thoroughly and compare them to each other. They determine the good and bad aspects of each creation and decide who will be sent to the next round.

With the superhero makeups complete, the next phase of the challenge begins. The contestants are now asked to turn the superhero makeups into super selfie makeups. This means that they need to create makeups that can't just be shown off in person, but also capture well on camera as a selfie.

This sub-challenge allows the remaining contestants to show their skills in using colors, contrasts, and textures to make their makeups stand out on camera. They have to create intricate makeup designs that are dynamic and pop on screen. This challenge becomes particularly challenging because they need characters that not only look good but also fit their family member. The objective is to capture the essence of the chosen superhero and to bring it to life in a photograph.

The contestants dive straight into the work and spend hours working on their designs. The pressure is on as the clock ticks away - each competitor knows that their design must be perfect, as there are no second chances in this competition. With minutes left on the clock, the contestants rush to attach their final touches, cut off extra latex and apply makeup powder to prevent any smudging.

When their time frame is over, the contestants gather once again on the challenge floor, as their creations are examined by the judges. The finished makeups are impressive, breathtaking, and each one is unique. The photographs are more remarkable than anything they have ever done before.

Overall, Season 8, Episode 10 of Face Off is a thrilling challenge front to back. The contestants tackle tasks that are super challenging and push their limits of creativity and imagination through the process. It is a show for all genres of fans, not all of which necessarily enjoy, or even watch, shows about makeup. However, Face Off is an excellent example of how creative one can become - given the right outlet. More than that, this particular episode shows how technology can play a vital role in catapulting what once was simply makeup, into a realm where it can come to life in photographs and on screens.
