In "Face Off" season 6 episode 15, titled "Heavenly Bodies," the remaining four contestants are tasked with creating two makeups, one representing a goddess of light and the other a goddess of darkness. The episode opens with a brief recap of the previous week's challenge, in which the artists had to create makeups inspired by Charles Dickens. After some drama in the judging room, Tyler was sent home, leaving George, Rashaad, Daran, and Cig as the final four.
As soon as the artists arrive in the lab, they are greeted by McKenzie and a special guest: makeup artist Bill Corso, whose film credits include "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," "Black Panther," and "Blade Runner 2049." Corso explains that the challenge for this week is to create a pair of makeups inspired by the dualities of light and dark. The makeups will need to be cohesive, as they will be worn by two models in a choreographed performance.
The artists are given some time to sketch their designs and plan out their approach. Daran, who has struggled with time management in the past, decides to take a different approach and work on one makeup at a time, rather than trying to work on both simultaneously. Rashaad is inspired by the idea of transformation, and plans to incorporate elements of butterflies and moths into his designs.
As the artists begin sculpting and painting their prosthetics, they encounter various technical challenges. George's prosthetic molds are not setting correctly, and he must improvise a solution using foam and hot glue. Daran's clay sculpture breaks apart, forcing him to start over from scratch. Cig struggles with getting the right texture on his prosthetics, while Rashaad wrestles with the delicate wing structures he has created.
As time winds down, the artists rush to finish their makeups and get them applied to their models. The final looks are impressive, with each artist showcasing their own unique take on the theme. Rashaad's makeups are elegant and ethereal, featuring intricate wing structures and delicate textures. Daran's makeups are bold and powerful, with striking contrast between the light and dark variations. Cig's makeups are inspired by underwater creatures, with shimmering scales and tentacles that seem to glow in the light. George's makeups are otherworldly and stylized, with exaggerated features and elegant sweeps of color.
The models take to the stage to perform their choreographed routine, and the judges are impressed with the results. Guest judge Casey Weldon, a contemporary artist known for his vivid, dreamlike paintings, praises the artists for their unique and imaginative designs. Corso offers technical feedback on each makeup, pointing out areas where the artists could have improved their execution. The judges deliberate and ultimately select one artist to move on to the final challenge, and two to face off in a head-to-head elimination.
Without giving away too much, "Face Off" season 6 episode 15 is a thrilling and visually stunning installment of the series, showcasing the talents of some truly remarkable artists as they tackle a difficult and complex challenge. Fans of the show and newcomers alike will find themselves drawn in by the drama, personalities, and creativity on display, as the remaining contestants fight for their chance to win the grand prize and secure their place in the history of special effects makeup.
